Why You Need to Balance Your HVAC System

  • Maximize total system output and efficiency

Every furnace, air conditioner, and rooftop unit has a nameplate in which data about the unit is provided. Air balancing tests and takes measurements on the unit and the overall system to match the data on the nameplate. Air balancing the overall system in any residence or commercial building can lead to lower utility bills and longer life span on the equipment.

  • Eliminate rid of cold/hot spots in rooms

Not balancing systems properly can lead to rooms being too hot or too cold, which just means the air/water is not properly being distributed throughout the system. Dampers must be installed in order for a system to be balanced. Dampers are just a piece of metal that is equivalent to the diameter of the duct/pipe or the size of the duct with a lever that can control air/water flow.

  • In commercial new construction and remodels, an air balance report is required before the building can be open to the public

Before a building can be opened to the public, air balancers must prove that the duct installed in the building is performing the data provided on the blueprint. Once an air balance is performed and the mechanical (heating and cooling) contractor passes, the air balance report is submitted and the building is ready to be turned over to the building owner.
